I remember when I first started talking to coaches about niching.

Almost every single one of them would say the same thing…

“But I can help so many different people.”

And I believed them.

Most coaches can help many different people. That’s part of what makes them good at what they do. They have life experience, empathy, training, and a genuine desire to support others.

But something interesting happens when a coach tries to speak to everyone at once.

Their message starts to get a little fuzzy.

If you ask them what they do, the answer often sounds something like this…

• “I help people improve their lives.”
• “I support people with different challenges.”
• “I help parents and families and relationships and mindset.”

All of those things may be true, but they are also very hard for someone to recognise themselves in.

People are looking for someone who understands their situation. When they hear a message that feels broad, they sometimes assume the coach may not understand their specific problem, and that’s when the opportunity quietly slips away.

When coaches feel overwhelmed in their business, it’s usually because they are trying to focus on too many things at once…too many topics, too many audiences, too many ideas about how they could help people.

But when you slow down and focus on one thing, your message begins to get clearer.

You start talking about a specific problem, a specific group of people, a specific kind of transformation, and something wonderful happens…people begin to recognize themselves in what you say.

They read your words and think, “That’s exactly what I’m going through,” and that’s when conversations start turning into clients.

Choosing a niche doesn’t mean you are limiting yourself. It simply means you are choosing a place to begin.

You can always grow, refine, and evolve your niche over time. But starting with clarity makes everything in your business easier.

Sometimes, the most powerful thing you can do for your coaching business is simply focus on one thing at a time.
